Abstract
The OPAL reactor has two thermal neutron guides that feed the guide hall. The first of these, TG1, supplies thermal neutrons to Wombat and Echidna, the two powder diffractometers, shown in Figure 1. TG1 is a 300 mm high × 50 mm wide guide with coatings of m = 2, 2.5, or 3 on the side plates of various sections, providing excellent transport of the neutrons from the reactor face to the instruments (at the Wombat monochromator position the flux is 2.83 × 109ncm2s−1). © 2021 Informa UK Limited
