Abstract
A brief description is given of the design and construction Commission's of the Australian Atomic Energy reactor HIFAR, located near Sydney or Lucas Heights. The design is based on that of the British DIDO, a high flux, heavy water moderated and cooled reactor having a maximum thermal neutron flux of 1014 neutrons/sq. cm/sec., and a maximum heat output of l0 megawatts.
