Abstract
Neutron powder diffraction measurements were performed on Fe70Al30 alloy in order to determine the relationship between the magnetic behaviour and the structural changes observed in this alloy. Results show that the re-entrant spin-glass behaviour is linked with D03 structure. There is a strong correlation between the lattice parameter and the diffraction peak intensity and all the magnetic changes reported in literature can be explained in terms of this relationship. Finally, magnetovolume effects similar to invar effect are reported in the spin-glass phase. © 2007, Elsevier Ltd.
