Abstract
Dipicolinic acid (pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid), labelled with l4C, has been synthesised, on a miniature scale, starting from formal-dehyde-[14C]. The radioactive label was incorporated into the '4' position of the pyridine ring to prevent possible loss of label owing to decarboxylation during experiments. The compound was intended for use in the localisation of dipicolinic acid in bacterial spores.
