This report sets out the relative holdup for tube type heat exchangers of sodium-uranium suspension and bismuth-uranium solution systems for various sizes of tube and tube wall thickness. It shows that based on a temperature difference of 50Âșc the holdup in the heat exchanger for the sodium-uranium suspension is at least 6 times that for the bismuth-uranium solution and as a conservative estimate may be taken as 8 times. A table is included of the leading dimensions of heat exchangers or a heat load of 500 MW with tubes of 3/4" and 1" outside diameter respectively.en_AU
