Abstract

The mechanism of the absorption of bicarbonate ions onto both unirradiated and irradiated Amberlite XE-78 resin in the OH form was studied using a C14-tracer techniques. The data obtained from these laboratory experiments have been related to reactor conditions in HIFAR. The mechanism of absorption of dissolved carbon dioxide and other anionic impurities from the HIFAR moderator onto the anion exchange resin is now understood.
