Abstract: The need for simulation in studies of burnout or critical heat flux for application to nuclear reactor design is outlined. The available literature on the suitability of Freon as a model fluid for water is reviewed and discussed. A brief description is given of a Freon loop currently under construction at the A.A.E.C. Research Establishment.
