    Neutron diffraction study and EPSC modelling of multi-pass tig weld

    The work presented here is part of a wider study on various weld types. Several cuboids were machined out of 308L stainless steel weld and these were compression tested in-situ at the ENGIN-X time-of-flight neutron diffractometer. The cuboids were tested in various orientations. The crystallographic strain was measured in terms of the Pawley lattice strain and the single peak strain was also calculated. The Young's modulus for various orientations has been calculated by fitting the linear region of the stress versus Pawley lattice strain curve. EPSC modelling of the angular variation of the Young's modulus has been carried out. The agreement between the neutron diffraction data and the EPSC modelling results has remained good. Efforts have been made to relate the crystallographic texture with the anisotropy of the Young's modulus. © 2025 Springer Nature
