Abstract: Smart protein: Careful design can yield novel biologically inspired materials that display advanced responsive behavior. A genetically engineered elastic protein displays both a lower and an upper critical solution temperature (LCST and UCST, see picture), and its photophysical behavior depends on solution pH value.
