- ItemDetermination of the stability constants of salicylato-beryllium complexes by a distribution method.(Australian Atomic Energy Commission, 1961-11) Szego, LEAn investigation of the solvent extraction behaviour of salicylato—beryllium complexes is reported here. A simplified method for calculating the stability constants has been developed. The values obtained are β1 = 4.0 x 10 12 and β2 = 4.3 x 10 22 in 0.15M sodium perchlorate.
- ItemLight scattering methods and their application to the study of the precipitation of ammonium diuranate using a simple and novel apparatus(Australian Atomic Energy Commission, 1972-02) Szego, LELight scattering theory and practice, especially as it applies to the precipitation of alkaline U-VI products, is critically reviewed. A simple and novel apparatus is described and some possibilities for further applications and some improvements are discussed.
- ItemThe recovery of beryllium from beryllium oxide matrix fuels through its oxyacetate(Australian Atomic Energy Commission, 1965-07) Farrell, MS; Szego, LE; Yates, PBThe laboratory development of a process for the recovery and decontamination of beryllium from fuel processing solutions is described. Azeotropic distillation is used in converting aqueous beryllium solutions to beryllium oxyacetate. The beryllium oxyacetate is then purified by recrystallization. Using a feed solution containing 3 β curies of fission products per mole of beryllium, a decontamination factor of 3 to 4 x 103 can be obtained with a 90 per cent, recovery of beryllium. Some solubility and conductance data are given for beryllium oxyacetate and its hydrolysis products. The hydrolysis reaction is briefly discussed.
