- ItemDevelopment of a pilot plant for the removal of rhenium from molybdenum trioxide(Australian Atomic Energy Commission, 1985-12) Lee, EJ; Sorby, PJ; Barnes, RK; Boyd, REReagent grade molybdenum trioxide used as a target material for the preparation of Tc-99m pharmaceuticals contains trace amounts of rhenium. A simple charcoal adsorptions process has been developed to remove rhenium selectively from molybdenum before neutron irradiation. Details are given of the design and operation of a pilot plant in which 17 kg of molybdenum trioxide was produced having a rhenium content of less than 1 x 10 -6 mu g g -1. Although contamination of the Tc-99m by inactive rhenium and 188 Re was effectively eliminated 188 Re resulting from the irradiation of tungsten impurity in the molybdenum trioxide target was still present.
- ItemDevelopment of an exchange-labelling procedure and investigation of the radiochemical stability and biodistribution characteristics for (131I) meta-iodobenzylguanidine sulphate (131I) MIBG(Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, 1989-08) Jenkinson, AV; Maddalena, DJ; Snowdon, GM; Sorby, PJA simple exchange-labelling procedure for the radioiodination of meta-lobobenzylguanidine (MIBG) has been developed which facilitates the production of (131I) MIBG both quickly and efficiently. Stability studies indicate that labelled material if stored at reduced temperature undergoes little breakdown. Comparative biodistribution studies with a commercial source has been used to authenticate both the identity and purity of the product.

By this method a consistent, high yield of I8F can be obtained in a solution containing reproducible concentrations of sodium sulphate and carbonate.

The compound is intended for tracer studies in the development of novel fungicides.
- ItemThe preparation of magnesium-28 by the irradiation in HIFAR of mixtures containing compounds of lithium-6 and magnesium-26(Australian Atomic Energy Commission, 1974-04) Robson, J; Sorby, PJAn examination of the specific activities and yields of 28Mg obtained by the irradiation in HIFAR of a number of mixtures of lithium carbonate with either magnesium carbonate or magnesium oxide showed that up to 0.25 mCi of 28Mg at approximately 6 mCi g-1 of magnesium could be obtained. A separation procedure based on the precipitation of magnesium hydroxide is described and the results of a number of preparations by this method are presented.
- ItemThe synthesis of 4-14C-pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid(Australian Atomic Energy Commission, 1978-02) Robson, J; Sorby, PJDipicolinic acid (pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid), labelled with l4C, has been synthesised, on a miniature scale, starting from formal-dehyde-[14C]. The radioactive label was incorporated into the '4' position of the pyridine ring to prevent possible loss of label owing to decarboxylation during experiments. The compound was intended for use in the localisation of dipicolinic acid in bacterial spores.
